Expérience Escargot premier
Its been two months since my return to Sydney after a crazy 3 weeks of holidaying in Melbourne, Dubai and India and it feels good to be out of the hiatus. These two months have been insanely busy and full of emotional upheaval and now finally the air has settled and I am back to my normal life. So speaking of normal, exploring new restaurants and cuisines is one of my favourite things to do in Sydney and the second I got invited to a friend's birthday at a French restaurant, I couldn't resist.
On Good Friday we made our way into an ally in the heart of the city, to this tiny yet authentic French restaurant - La Guillotine. Was the first to arrive and immediately please by the flirtatious Frenchmen and that irresistible sexy French accent, barely ordered some sparkling water and the rest of the group arrived to put an end to it.
Now having never been to a French gourmet restaurant before I had to order Escargot - they were delicious - served in their shells with garlic and parsley butter, yummy. They taste somewhat like cooked oysters and mussels but I guess the flavours made this quite good for a first experience.
I would have liked to order a bottle of good French wine, but I guess that had to be left for another visit, wine by the glass it was and so I didn't have the pleasure of choosing the right wine to go with the food. Moving on the mains were quite basic, Most ordered the Char-grilled lamb cutlets with herbs, whole grain mustard butter, ratatouille and mash potatoes but I went for the good old fillet of beef served with a shallot and tarragon sauce served with fries. Both very delicious and extremely tender meat. The desert could have easily being skipped as the Crème Brulee was just too dry for my liking.
Having said that I would still recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience French cuisine without paying crazy amounts for it.
